URL & Image File Naming

URL Naming

  1. URL names should be short, descriptive and include targeted keywords naturally.
  2. As a guideline URLs should be separate by hyphens
  3. The number of words should be from 2 to a maximum of around 5-6 words
    1. Pro tip: Blog posts are somewhat exempted from this max, as the blog URL is general just the heading of the blog which is okay.

Example URLs

Geo Targeted URLS

Geo targeted content should generally be named /city-st/ (e.g. /phoenix-az/) in some cases we may opt to add an extra keyword (e.g. /phoenix-az-dental-cleaning/), though as a default go with the /city-st/ option.

Blog URLs

Generally a blog post URLs will be the same as the heading of the post. E.g. if the blog post heading is “5 ways to enjoy outdoor living with artificial grass,” the URL will be “/blog/5-ways-to-enjoy-outdoor-living-with-artificial-grass/”

Image File Name

  1. Max 3-6 words
  2. Include keywords naturally
  3. Use hyphens to separate words
  4. Avoid stop words when possible (stop words like “in”, “and”, “or”, etc).
